Last Epoch Reveals the Curse-Heavy Warlock Mastery

Last Epoch - Warlock Overview

Eleventh Hour Games, the developers of Last Epoch, have teamed up with content creators to help tease and reveal information on the two unreleased Mastery Classes, the Warlock and the Falconer. Last week was the Warlock’s time to shine, and thus we now know what kind of chaotic havoc Acolytes can now wield against their foes.

Destruction Everlasting

The Warlock mastery class in Last Epoch functions much like the class in other games. But instead of relying on demonic pacts to fuel their fury, these Warlocks focus on using a combination of Fire and Necrotic damage to devastate their enemies. The class also thrives on debilitating their enemies with a menagerie of curses at their disposal that have various effects.

I Curse You!

At launch, five unique curses will be available from the Last Epoch Warlock’s various skills. Anguish is a non-stacking curse that simply reduces the DoT damage that enemies inflict while also dealing Necrotic damage to them. Penance functions exactly like the Iron Maiden ability of Diablo 2’s Necromancer. Enemies afflicted by this curse will be dealt fire damage when they harm anything.

Next is Decrepify, an affliction that deals constant physical damage to targets while also making them more susceptible to damage over time effects. The DoT weakness grows stronger as the Warlock’s current health goes lower. Acid Skin is a very straightforward curse that makes affected enemies more susceptible to critical hits. Last we have Torment, another damage-over-time effect that also greatly slows enemies hit.

Passive Destruction

Just like all the other mastery classes, the Warlock in Last Epoch will have a passive skill tree with over a couple of dozen nodes that they can invest in. Many of these abilities specialize in increasing damage output, especially the fire, physical, and necrotic damage types. As Warlocks heavily lean into curses and operate at low life, there are several passives that increase curse effectiveness and grant the warlock increased survivability.

The Warlock of Last Epoch

Of course, the most exciting parts of a new Mastery Class would be the added active skills that each would bring to the table. Just like other skills in Last Epoch (there are over 120 at this point), each has a dedicated customization tree that features another dozen or so nodes. Most of these merely offer small stat boots, but there are a few unique nodes that can fundamentally change how an ability operates.

Skill Up

Chaos Bolts is the first of the Last Epoch Warlock’s skills, a basic ability that flings a barrage of fire and necrotic bolts on nearby enemies. This skill can be enhanced to deal more damage to enemies afflicted by various status effects. Even further, the Chaos Bolts can be upgraded with the Seed of Chaos node to make the projectiles spawn additional projectiles on any enemy hit, creating a chain effect. Additionally, players can choose to make this skill more support-focused, allowing the bolts to be cast on their minions, thereby granting them various bonuses.

Next is Ghost Flame, a channeled ability that spews out both fire and necrotic damage by default. It can be upgraded to automatically cast the Decrepify curse after channeling, or have the area of effect be circular around the player instead of a frontal cone.

Soul Feast causes the Warlock to literally feast on the souls of their enemies, calling out to cursed foes and absorbing their essence for various buffs. Defensive-wise, the Last Epoch Warlock class has access to entering the Profane Veil, allowing players to dodge incoming attacks at the tradeoff of moving more slowly.

Last we have the Cthonic Fissure, letting the Warlock tear open the very earth, ripping fire and brimstone out of the fissure. Spirits of the damned also flood out of the crack, inflicting nearby foes with the Torment curse. The Fissure can be converted to poison damage instead of fire, or have it cause Acid Skin in addition to Torment. One other interesting enhancement allows the warlock to open two fissures at a time, though at a much greater mana cost.

At the Eleventh Hour
