In this Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build Guide, I’ll be showing you my Silent Spearcaller build. This is an NG+ build that focuses on the use of the Death Ritual Spear as well as using stealth mechanics.

Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build Guide – Silent Spearcaller

A stealth melee build that uses the Death Ritual Spear to range down targets or stab them to death up close.

Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build – Equipment

The spear that we’re using for this build is the Death Ritual Spear. You don’t get it until around 85-90% of the game is done, so this is a build that’s more appropriate for NG+. The reason that we use this is its weapon skill, Spearcall Ritual. This summons a bunch of spirit spears out of the sky in a large AoE, hitting like a freight train especially on big targets as each spear can hit the target. You can also wipe out packs of enemies or kill tough or large enemies very easily with this. It’s a very versatile skill that doesn’t cost a lot of FP, and it deals 100% magic damage.

The crux of this weapon is that Dexterity is its primary scaling attribute. Dexterity increases its physical damage, but it doesn’t increase the damage of Spearcall Ritual. Intelligence increases it, but the Death Ritual Spear scales extremely poorly with Intelligence. That means that if you want to get the most damage out of your melee attacks, you’re going to increase Dexterity, and Intelligence for Spearcall Ritual. If you want to be somewhere in the middle of that, you’re going to increase both of these attributes.

What I’ve done here is I essentially put all my points into Intelligence, while just meeting the minimum requirements in Strength and Dexterity. The first reason is to increase the damage of Spearcall Ritual, as that is the way to get the most damage out of it. Second, it increases our sorcery damage. You’re going to get more damage out of your sorceries if you have 80 Intelligence rather than 40, so this is a good way to do that. Having over 60 Intelligence will allow us to equip Carian Regal Scepter, which I’ll be explaining in a while.

We’re playing this as sort of a stealth build as we’re using Unseen Form and Black Knife Set to muffle our footsteps. The concept of this build is that you’re going to sneak up on enemies, catching the drop on them, then using Spearcall Ritual, Night Comet, or attacking with your spear. You have 110 critical rating with the spear, so you’re dealing a lot of damage out of your backstabs making it work better for a stealth build.

We’re using the Carian Regal Scepter here to get the most damage possible out of Night Comet because we have the Staff of Loss on our offhand while casting the spell, giving us an extra 30% damage along with the better sorcery scaling of Carian Regal Scepter on our main hand. This is going to allow us to melt enemies with Night Comet when we need it. We’re using Spearcall Ritual to handle our AoE damage and big enemies, and Night Comet if you want to pick off a single target from far away. You’ll also be using Night Comet to range down a boss where Spearcall Ritual just isn’t good enough to get it done.

Why I like the Carian Regal Scepter here, besides the fact that it has fantastic sorcery scaling, is because of its weapon skill Spinning Weapon. It works really well in this build because we have Shard of Alexander in this build to increase the damage of Spearcall Ritual. It’s also going to increase Spinning Weapon’s damage. Sometimes, you don’t have anything but your two staves equipped, so Spinning Weapon will be your melee solution to this problem. It deals a lot of damage with the way this build is set-up, as you are using talismans that increase your damage.

We also have the Staff of Loss here to boost the damage of Night Comet, even Night Shard if you’re using for this build. You can upgrade it if you want, as it allows you to cast the Night Sorceries from your offhand while you have the spear out, for less damage than you would with Carian Regal Scepter. It gives you a ranged option for when you might need it. If you don’t upgrade it, you’re just going to have it out when you’re casting with Carian Regal Scepter. It’s up to you if you want to do it here.

When it comes to the armor for this Death Ritual Spear build, I’m using the Black Knife Set here. As I mentioned earlier, we’re going for a stealthy gameplay for this build. It fits this theme because it muffles your footsteps. When you combine it with Unseen Form, the enemies won’t be able to see or hear you very well, allowing you to sneak up on them much more easily. This allows you to get the drop on enemies and do critical strikes on them or cast spells. If you were to min-max this build, you could use an armor that’s much heavier because we have a lot of stamina. You will also replace Bull-Goat’s Talisman with Crepus’s Vial as you’ll have armor that has better Poise.

Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build – Talismans

The three staple talismans that we’re using for this Death Ritual Spear build are: Shard of Alexander, Ritual Sword Talisman, and Magic Scorpion Charm. Shard of Alexander will increase the damage of Spearcall Ritual and Spinning Weapon. Ritual Sword Talisman will increase our overall damage by 10% when we’re at max health. Lastly, Magic Scorpion Charm increases our magic damage. Spearcall Ritual is 100% magic damage, so this is a good talisman to use for this build.

Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build – Gameplay

When it comes to spells, I am using Unseen Form so we’re going to be slightly invisible for a while. Enemies can still see you, but it does help with stealth, allowing you to get behind enemies more easily. It takes a little bit to get used to exactly how stealth works in this game, so you can’t just use Unseen Form then immediately run to enemies to backstab them. If you’re carefully playing, you can easily get critical attacks with this. Sometimes, when enemies see that you’ve killed their ally, they’ll come over but they don’t know where you are. This allows you to chain a backstab or spells most of the time, which makes it easier to play a stealthy time of gameplay.

We also have Night Comet here, as we’re going to use it when Spearcall Ritual isn’t getting things done. It deals an incredible amount of damage, and you can charge this up for extra damage. You can use Godfrey Icon in place of Bull-Goat’s Talisman if you want to get more damage out of that charged cast.

If you decide to use Night Shard for this Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear build, it’s good for weaker enemies when you want to conserve FP because Night Comet costs quite a lot of FP. We also have Terra Magica which increases your damage if you’re standing inside of its circle. This is going to apply to your attacks that deal a lot of magic damage, which a lot of your spells are. If you try to fight inside this during a boss, your attacks will massive amounts of damage.

Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build – Attributes

When it comes to the attributes for this Death Ritual Spear build, we have: 50 Vigor, 30 Mind, 33 Endurance, 14 Strength, 20 Dexterity, 80 Intelligence, 7 Faith, and 9 Arcane. You don’t need any Faith or Arcane for this build, so these values may vary depending on which class you started as. I picked the Astrologer, so these are the starting values for the attributes we don’t need.

When it comes to Vigor, we have kind of low Vigor for this Death Ritual Spear build. For this build, you’re not planning on getting hit much as you’re playing stealthily and smartly. It’s a downside during boss fights as you can’t sneak while fighting a boss. However, you can deal with this by ranging down the boss or tough enemy instead of fighting them melee. You’re going to want to increase this to 60 to give you a little bit more leeway. You’re also using Magic Scorpion Charm so getting more health is better.

Mind is at 30 here, although I would like it closer to 40. Every spell we cast is expensive, so you go through a lot of FP with this build. It’ll alleviate some of that flask-chugging you need to do if you can get this up to about 40 or so throughout the course of NG+.

We have 33 Endurance here as it’ll allow us to use Crepus’s Vial in place of Bull-Goat’s Talisman so that your footsteps will be muffled while wearing heavier armor with better Poise. The build would be more optimized if you do that, as long as you can do a medium roll. Additionally, Night Comet chews through stamina, so having extra stamina for casting spells will always be good for this build.

When it comes to Stength and Dexterity, I only have the minimum requirements for Death Ritual Spear. You’re not getting much out of 80 Intelligence. You could take it up to 99, but if you want to get more physical damage, you should increase Dexterity. If you find yourself using spear attacks regularly, it’s not a bad idea to increase your Dexterity at some point after your Intelligence is maxed out. You want to take it up to at least 50, probably 80.

Elden Ring Death Ritual Spear Build – Final Tips

If you’re using the Flask of Wondrous Physick, you’re going to want to use the Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear to further boost your magic damage for Spinning Weapon, Spearcall Ritual, and your regular attacks. You could also use Greenburst Crystal Tear to increase your stamina recovery. You cast a lot of spells, so it will be good to have additional stamina recovery for this build. If you want to get a little more damage out of your spells, you could use the Intelligence-knot Crystal Tear.

When it comes to Great Runes for this build, I really like Radahn’s Great Rune because there’s nothing you need for this build after reaching the attributes that we want. You don’t need Strength, Endurance, Mind, Vigor, etc., so this Great Rune will give you more stamina and HP to keep you alive and cast spells. This build isn’t attribute-hungry where Godrick’s Great Rune would be needed.
