Granblue Fantasy Relink Vaseraga Build & Character Guide

Vaseraga is a Draph warrior and is a member of the Society, an organization that hunts down primal beasts. He has formed a contract with a Seal Weapon called Great Scythe Grynoth. His massive blade and his immunity to pain intimidate opponents and make them lose their will to fight.

Despite his imposing appearance, he is a kind and calm person who is always ready to help those in need. He is a loyal partner to Zeta and his indomitable spirit, raw physical power and lack of pain sensation make his fighting style overwhelmingly aggressive.

Given his ability to wield the Great Scythe Grynoth, he inflicts massive attack damage on his enemies by chaining charge attacks with his skills. He can withstand enemy attacks and use it to his advantage.

Vaseraga‘s gameplay revolves around dealing heavy chained charged attacks, which is one of the strongest single-hitting attacks in Granblue Fantasy Relink. He possesses special skills which provide more damage multipliers depending on his current health. The lower his current health, the more damage he can deal to targets.

He even uses his own HP to power up a certain skill and have access to an Undying State. He also can tank damage and counter enemies with powerful blows based on received damage during its duration. Players who love aggressive gameplay will surely love this character.

Vaseraga Special Passives – Support Skills

Feel No Pain

Vaseraga has access to a special gauge that provides Stout Heart, Attack, and Defense Buff. This gauge accumulates charges when Vaseraga lands his charge attacks, which are frequent in combat.

Melas Unleashed

To maintain Vaseraga’s special gauge, Melas Unleashed provides him with the opportunity to do so since gauge loses charges if the user stops attacking targets and it also maintains his Stout Heart Buff.

Now that is out of the way, let’s move on to Vaserega’s Skills. I will be going through each of them and providing my recommendations as well to give you an idea of how these skills are being utilized.

Battalions of Fear

The first skill on the list is Battalions of Fear which is Vaseraga’s gap closer skill. Keep in mind that most of his skills are chainable into his charge attacks so you will have this option. This is also going to be one of his staple skills.

Violent Shadows

Violent Shadows unleashes an AOE attack around Vaseraga which damages enemies and restores his HP during the process. This skill can be prolonged to deal even more damage.

Great Scythe Grynoth

Moving on to the next skill which is the Greatscythe of Grynoth. This skill allows Vaseraga to unleash a heavy-hitting attack that also deals tons of damage to his targets. This skill can also be transitioned to a charge attack.

Umbral Eclipse

Umbral Eclipse releases another AOE attack which inflicts slow to nearby targets. I see this as a useful skill since the slower the enemy, the more likely Vaseraga’s charged attacks connect.

Immortal Pain

One of the best skills of Vaseraga is Immortal Pain. This skill allows him to access an Undying state and grants him Debuff Immunity. When this skill is active, players will be able to concentrate on dishing out damage without worrying about incoming damage or even debuffs.

Immortal Pain can provide a lot of value as his Damnation’s damage multipliers depend on how low Vaseraga’s current HP is. This skill works as a safety net so players can sacrifice their HP as low as they want to in exchange for damage.

Netherwrath

Netherwrath allows Vaseraga to take damage in place of his allies granting him the Substitute Buff and also a Damage Mitigation buff. The catch is, that he will be countering a heavy-hitting strike and the damage of this strike is determined based on the damage he received during the skill’s animation.ย

Forgotten Tales

The next skill on the list is Forgotten Tales. This skill is another buff skill and grants him Hostility, and Drain in the process. Forgotten Tales will allow Vaseraga to sustain himself with the Drain active just in case he wants to recover his lost HP.

The Hostility buff works well with Netherwrath since you will be calling enemy attention and tank damage and counter with a heavy-hitting blow.

Damnation

The last skill on the list is Damnation. This skill consumes 30% of Vaseraga’s HP upon usage and can be activated three times in a row. Damnation provides the Jammed Buff which further increases his attack based on how low his current HP is.

This skill can be stacked with Immortal Pain so the user will not worry about dying in combat while using their current health points to increase Vaseraga’s overall DPS. Immortal Pain will help the user keep the 30% health requirement of Damnation in check.

Damnation

Now that we’ve covered all of his skills, here are my skill recommendations. He is a pure damager thus slotting in Battalion of Fear is a must. This skill will help you close the gap between you and your targets and deal damage in the process.

Follow up with Great Scythe of Grynoth which easily stun enemies and can be connected to a charge attack in the process. My third skill on the list is the Umbral Eclipse to have access to Slow and connect more charge attacks in combat. Inflicting Slow targets can be beneficial for the whole team as they easily take this advantage to even deal more damage.

The last skill on my setup is Immortal Pain. This skill is simply non-negotiable as the Undying State and Debuff Immunity provide a lot of value to Vaseraga’s gameplay. When this skill is active, you will not be worrying about Status Ailments or even dying and concentrate instead on dishing out damage via charge attacks.

Damnation on the other hand is not a bad choice since you can take advantage of the Jammed Buff it provides and as mentioned previously, you can easily use Immortal Pain to avoid dying while dealing immense damage to targets.

Now that skills are out of the way, let’s tackle the suggested builds for Vaseraga. Since his gameplay revolves around heavy-hitting attacks and constant access to Attack Buff, my main recommendation is to build him around, Damage Cap, Critical Chance, and Critical Damage to take advantage of his massive DPS in combat.

WeaponWurtzite Scythe

Starting with his weapon first. Since we will be building him as a pure damager, I chose his Ascencion Weapon Wurtzite Scythe. Just in case you want to max Attack Power Trait later on, this weapon will give you a decent foundation on achieving that while also giving you a little bit of an HP. Also, you will want to ascend this weapon soon anyway.

This weapon alone adds a level 25 Attack Power Trait and level 15 HP Trait so it will give you a headstart. Although it’s not a priority in this build, it’s nice to have.

Sigils

When it comes to Sigils, we will be prioritizing offensive traits to fully utilize his damage potential while also adding some of the other Traits that I think will work best with this build. If your Sigil slots are limited at the moment, prioritize Damage Cap.

Note that the tiers of the suggested Sigils in this setup are not mandatory but the ideal ones. Equipping the right Sigils is more important so just equip yourself with what you have, especially in the early parts of the game or when you just reached the endgame.

HP & Aegis Sigils

When playing on Proud Difficulty Quests, enemies can take you down in one to two hits. So increasing your HP with Health or Aegis Sigils will give this build more survivability.

Health
Health

Depending on your skill level or how well you know a certain fight, you can remove this and equip more offensive Sigil types so you can enjoy higher damage like Damage Cap for example. I suggest aiming for at least level 15 to 26 for HP Trait and level 11 to 13 Aegis Trait to gain a substantial boost to HP.

Damage Cap Sigils

Damage Cap Sigils play a pivotal role in increasing your overall damage when reaching endgame. This Trait increases your damage ceiling so pay attention if you are not gaining higher damage numbers despite increasing your Attack Stat or adding other damage multipliers.

If you notice that your damage is not increasing after equipping more damage multiplier, this is the time that you need to add Damage Cap Trait to gain more damage. You can easily increase your damage by cranking up your Damage Cap. In this specific setup, I managed to level it up to level 46 to gain a 154% increase in my damage cap.

Damage Cap Sigils
Damage Cap Sigils

Of course the higher the value, the better results you can get. Assess your inventory and adjust later on. You will be freeing Sigil Slots later on as you level your current one to max so it will give you headroom to slot in more Damage Cap Sigils.

Critical Hit Rate Sigils

Critical Chance Sigils are expected for this build. Since we will be focusing more on the Damage Cap Trait, our main goal is to have at least 70% Critical Hit Chance. Level 22 Critical Hit Rate Trait will give you a 26% Critical Hit Chance and that is enough to reach the ideal percentage.

Playing with the applicable Wrightstones can also help you achieve this high-level trait so keep this in mind. Assess what you have and use it accordingly. For instance, I do have a Wrightstones that adds more Critical Hit Rate and other bonus Traits which will give us a decent bump on achieving our set goals for this build.

Critical Hit Rate Sigils

Critical Damage Sigils

Since we have increased his Critical Hit Chance Trait, it is ideal to slot in Critical Damage Sigils for more damage multipliers. Preferably, this Trait should be nearing the max level which is 30 to have that 50% damage multiplier. However, this skill can easily be changed to Damage Cap if you are hitting the Damage Cap threshold.

Critical Damage Sigils

More Sigil Suggestions

The first ones that I mentioned should be prioritized especially when you just reached Proud Difficulty. But just in case you are looking for more options, the next list of Sigils are the ones that can work well with this build.

Tyranny Sigils

Tyranny Trait can provide a significant boost to your Attack Power in exchange for lowering your total amount of HP. This is suggested for seasoned players since they will not rely too much on their total health pool in exchange for dealing more damage.

If you are up for it, you can remove any HP boosting on this build to slot more Tyranny Sigils. However, ensure that you are not hitting the Damage Cap, or else, you will be losing HP for no reason. Even though you will have an abysmally low HP, you can take advantage of Vaseraga’s Immortal Pain skill to avoid dying at all when it’s active.

Enmity Trait

Enmity Trait will indeed work for Vaseraga since you are lowering his HP naturally by utilizing his key skills so this is a perfect choice. If you are not hitting the Damage Cap, Enmity Trait will work great in this build.

Cascade Sigils

Cascade Sigils shorten skill cooldowns whenever the user hits a target. Just in case you do have an extra slot, this Trait can come in handy.

Attack Power Sigils

Although we do have a decent foundation for Attack Power Trait, this is merely a bonus if you have freed some of the slots when you upgrade all of the required Sigils.

Attack Power Sigils
Attack Power Sigils

Now that we already tackled the build for Vaseraga, let’s now move on to his actual usage. The majority of his DPS comes from his Charge Attacks. A big chunk of your general DPS comes from this. So every time you use your skills like Battalions of Fear and The Great Scythe Grynoth will be able to connect it to Vaseraga’s Charge Attack.

Battalions of Fear is your main asset when chasing a boss so you can keep on dealing damage and ensure that you will be able to connect a charge attack after using this skill. Same thing with Great Scythe Grynoth, this skill can be used straightforwardly and often stuns enemies due to its high stun damage.ย

Follow it up with a charge attack and you will be doing a lot of damage. What I usually do is slow down enemies with Umbral Eclipse so I can land more charged attacks. Immortal Pain‘s main usage is to allow the user to be aggressive in combat.

Having access to Vaseraga’s Undying State, players can tank damage, disregard status ailments, and just concentrate on damage alone. Just make sure to pay attention to its duration or else you will die a lot. Use this buff strategically and it will do wonders.

Suggested Party Composition For Vaseraga in GBF

In terms of party composition, Vaseraga can fill the main DPS role. You can bring another DPS as a stunner if you wish so you can enjoy more Link Attacks. Pair them with two supporting characters or slot in a hybrid character and you are all set.

For party composition example, a Vaseraga set as the main damager of the group. The secondary DPS is Lancelot who can freeze enemies with his Kaltzwinger Skill. When the target is frozen, Vaseraga can spam his charge attacks without issues.

Vaseraga
Vaseraga

Cagliostro can fill in the main support role this time with her all-around buffs which are Phantasmagoria and burst heals. She can also do the revives when needed and can inflict Attack Down debuff on targets.

The last man would be Percival who can be a DPS, Support Role. He can buff the entire team with Attack and Defense up and since it is a unique type of buff, it stacks with Cagliostro’s Phantasmagoria.

This is just one example of a party composition that can work with Vaseraga. A very strong character that can deal massive damage on single hits and players who love an aggressive gameplay style will enjoy this character the most.
